At DAV, we work to enhance our understanding of the horrors of previous wars and their effects. We continue to build our knowledge on current issues pertinent to the newest generation of heroes. Historically, DAV has focused on the effects on veterans from mustard gas of World War I, radiation poisoning of WWII and Agent Orange of Vietnam Era. Additionally and more recently within the past 30 years, efforts also focused on PTSD, TBI, severe amputations, the increased survival rate from these injuries with our Gulf War veterans, and the obstacles they face. We are at the forefront of the PACT Act, educating our veterans and assisting them to attain the benefits they have earned through service.
A common misconception is the thought or belief that the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) takes care of all veterans’ needs, especially those injured in service. However, DAV remains forever vigilant in addressing the wellbeing of our nation’s veterans and more so with the current backlog of claims and everchanging practices within the VA.
